Public feedback is an interesting thing. You’re putting yourself out there for anyone to say ANYTHING about you and your business…

… you can also get some great comments.

You could get a completely unreasonable person make comments that you believe are totally unfounded and unfair, while they think they are quite justified. You can also get clients saying overwhelmingly positive things about your product, and just as importantly (or even more importantly), you’re backup service.

Happily Workshop Software has gotten some great feedback.

Having been released only a few months, it’s great to know that you’re on the right track.

We understand that the initial implementation of a software system can often lead to the most challenging time in the system’s life-cycle, and we wouldn’t be honest if we did not admit that there has been the odd hiccup along the way. The important thing is how you deal with those hiccups, and I’m personally proud of our team who have worked tirelessly to improve Workshop Software every day and make the user experience even better and better (and we’ll continue to do that forever). We are confident that the small issues we experienced in the beginning are basically behind us, and we’re looking forward to a massive 2015. That’s not to say that there won’t be challenges in the future, you wouldn’t  be pushing the limits if that did no happen, but we feel we’re in a great place for a big upwards trajectory.

Your feedback validates our efforts

The feedback is great, as it not only praises the application, our backup support has been highly praised. Anyone can write some software and put it up online and hope to make a fortune from it, but it’s the backup service and ongoing future vision that provides the real value. You see, we’ve got 30 years experience behind us, dealing with Automotive Businesses for all that time, so we know exactly what out marketplace expects, and what makes an Automotive business successful.

That’s the workshop software difference.

    Same feedback as originally – We like the look and feel of this, but by it’s design you have locked it into servicing cars & light vehicles only.

    With a few VERY SMALL changes this app could cater for ‘industrial equipment” servicing as well (everything from chainsaws, mowers and brushcutters through to pumps and construction equipment).

    One simple change would be to allow us to rename fields and allow us to hide fields we don’t use.
    e.g. we would
    – rename “Rego” to “Serial Number”
    – rename “ODO” to “Hour Meter Reading”
    – rename other fields to cater for “Plant ID”, “Engine Make”, “Engine Model”, “Engine Serial #” etc

    One other change needed is to be able to classify jobs into “equipment kinds” – ie “chainsaw”, “brushcutter”, “ride on mower”, “bulldozer”, “crane” – each of these job types would need to have different combinations of fields on the equipment page (different names for fields, different sets of unused fields).

    The ability to pre-program different standard service procedure steps for each equipment kind. (ie Chainsaw 50 hours service – print these steps. Chainsaw FULL service – these steps). This would have to be useful for cars too surely?

    Finally (and this is a much bigger change) – we’d need the ability to tag jobs as either in-field or in-workshop. This would require being able to create jobs without full equipment details, plus google maps integration so we could calculate travel charges from our service base and back.

    These few changes would open up this software to people who service ANYTHING – not just cars and bikes.

      Thanks for your note.

      At Workshop Software, we are always innovating with new ideas and looking to the future for possibilities. We are interested in adaptation of the system for other, closely related, industries such as industrial equipment.

      We do, however, currently have a number of exciting development additions we are currently working on, such as a booking diary, dashboard and mobile Apps (don’t tell anyone, these are supposed to be secret ;-) ). This would mean that your suggestion may not make it to the top of the priority list until at least these things were completed.
